Hi! I am Kelly Cole and I love to collect and sew with vintage fabrics.
I have been sewing and playing with fabric since I was a young girl learning to sew on a 1960’s teal blue Singer sewing machine. I have also been a thrift store fanatic most my life; it all started with my mom bringing me along on her garage sale and thrift store adventures. Those experiences planted the seeds for Vintage Fabric Studio today.
I first learned apparel sewing as a child and then picked up quilting in 1995. I still have the original pink rotary cutter I bought from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Since then I have made countless quilts and garments, pouches and bags. I operated an Esty shop and blog called Blue Bird Sews for 5 years where I shared photos of my quilts and wrote tutorials. I also had a dream come true by having patterns published in Stitch Magazine and Fons and Porter’s Quilty Magazine.
After the birth of my second son in 2015 I wanted to make a vintage sheet quilt but didn’t have enough of a selection of fabrics to choose from. I started buying up sheets and trading with a few friends. The prospect of buying enough different prints to make a quilt was a little daunting. I was going to have a lot of vintage sheet fabric left over! That is when the idea for Vintage Fabric Studio was born. Collect lots of unique vintage prints and offer them in a package meant for you; quilters, sewers and crafters.
Now Vintage Fabric Studio is here to fill that vintage fabric void in your life. Discover vintage sheets in Kelly’s custom color fat quarter bundles picked with the right style, prints and colors in mind so that your next project is an adorable success. We also offer die-cut charm packs in four color-ways; warm, cool, rainbow and low volume. Each 5” charm is cut with an Accuquilt Studio 2 so that every square measures up for accurate piecing.
What I consider our most dynamic offering is the exclusive line of vintage fabric sewing kits. Each project kit comes with the pattern and materials to get you started quickly on a cute simple project for you or a gift. The best part is once you use the full color pattern make one you will want to make it over and over again! Look for more kits to be added during our shop updates happening every few months.
What I love most about Vintage Fabric Studio (besides the fabric!) is the mission statement we operate from: Re-purpose with a Purpose. We know the way we create and buy has to evolve in order to take care of our one Earth. Each vintage sheet or piece of fabric we find and bring back to the studio is one less piece that ends up in a land fill. These textiles have lots of life in them; especially after a cycle through our super wash. I am truly excited to get them into your hands. Together we can create and build a brighter world through fabric.
Thank you for shopping with me here at Vintage Fabric Studio. I take deep pride in the work I do here, and I do it with love so that you get all the vintage fabric goodness you want.
