Here is the place where you will find answers to most of your Vintage Fabric Studio questions and maybe a bit of the unexpected. Scroll to the bottom of the page to continue to our contact form.

Q:Why vintage sheets and fabrics?

A: The mission of Vintage Fabric Studio is Re-purpose with a Purpose. We are aware of the massive amounts of waste generated by our lifestyle in the United States and around the world. Collectively we are understanding that the paradigms of how we create and use things must evolve. What we focus is all the beautiful vintage textiles out there in the world just waiting at the thrift shores, estate sales and in the cupboards unused and destined for the trash bin. I collect the cream of the crop in the colors and styles I know you are going to love to play with. Join me and let us create a brighter future together.

Q: Where do you find all these amazing sheets and fabrics?

A: I love the thrill of the hunt. Finding the cute prints in good condition is part hard work, timing and ninja skills. I have been thrifting since before I could walk and sewing since my foot could reach the pedal of my mom’s singer sewing machine. I take my time in finding just the right textiles in just the right condition – not every sheet or piece of fabric out there is going to make it into the shop. We have standards people. Once the lucky pieces are found at the thrift shop, estate sale or by word of mouth they are piled high in the studio.

Q: What does it mean when you say vintage sheets and fabric?

A: There are a few terms for what ‘vintage’ means. I look for fabric and sheets between the years of 1940 to 1980. Older than that you are in the antique age, newer than that you are in the retro age. Typically what I have found researching this era is that vintage is not less than 20 years old. I like the style and designs of that particular 40 year span and that is what I buy for Vintage Fabric Studio; really cute vintage fabrics.

Q: What is the fiber content of vintage sheets?

A: Most vintage sheets are 50% cotton and 50% polyester. There are some with a different variation, 60%/40% and a few that are 100% cotton. 95% of the vintage sheets we offer are the 50/50 blend.

Q: You clean the sheets and fabric, right?

A: YES. So many times yes. Each piece of fabric is washed (unless noted, ie. comes to you in original packaging) in hot hot water with detergent and a special mix of cleaning agents. The fabric soaks anywhere from 12-24 hours in the super wash. This process releases any dirt and smell that might have been lingering. Once cleaned the sheets are machine dried and inspected again to double check for flaws, rips or stains. See our full blog post about this process by clicking here.

Q: Is each piece of fabric in perfect condition?

A: Well, mostly. We take a lot of pride in the final product and that is only possible if each piece is clean, cut accurately and in the style you have come to love here at Vintage Fabric Studio. And as much as I would love to say 100% of every piece is going to be 100% perfect I just can’t. It is the nature of vintage textiles to have some flaws. What I can say is that each piece that leaves the studio has been checked, checked and rechecked and if something does manage to slip through our eagle eyes we will do our best to make it right with you. Please contact us first with any questions or concerns you have about a completed or pending order.

Q: I see you use a Studio Die-Cutter, what’s that all about?

A: The Accuquilt Studio Die-cutter is all about precision. Every one of our charm squares are cut using it so that each 5″ square measures exact every time. Period.

Q: I love just love your patterns but don’t want to buy the whole kit. Do you sell your patterns separately?

A: Thanks for much we are so happy you love our patterns! Right now we are not selling any patterns as a stand-alone item. The only way to grab a Vintage Fabric Studio pattern is to purchase it with a kit because we want you to have the whole vintage goodness experience.
